Character Name: Anna Milton
Series: Supernatural
Timeline: 4x09, after escaping the asylum
Canon Resource Link: http://supernatural.wikia.com/wiki/Anna_Milton and http://supernatural.wikia.com/wiki/Supernatural
Character Background:
The beginning is complicated, depending on when it is you want to take it from. For Anna Milton the beginning was December 1985, born to Richard and Amy Milton after years of trying for a baby. A miracle child if there ever had been one. The early days were more stressful for the Miltons than anything else. From a young age, Anna started to express fear around her father. She became convinced that Richard wasn't her real father, and her real dad was angry with her and he wanted to kill her. She was taken to a child psychologist and as she grew older, these issues started to fade.
For all intents and purposes, Anna spent the next twenty odd years perfectly happy and perfectly normal. She grew up, forgot all about her daddy issues and moved on. She got through high school, started a degree in journalism and had a lot of friends. The sweet daughter of a deacon was thriving in life with a bright future ahead of her, and then on September 18, 2008 it all went to hell. She heard the words ring in her ears - Dean Winchester is saved - and everything changed.
She tried to ignore it at first, of course she did. She didn't tell anyone as the voices of angels grew more frequent, incessant chatter in the background that she tried desperately to shut out, but then they started divulging more and more information, and she learned about the apocalypse. She learned about Lilith the demon trying to break 66 of the seals to free Lucifer, and she learned about the Righteous Man and his descent in Hell. She learned about Castiel's actions in saving him, and the distaste for Sam and his more grey area choices. If the angels said it, she heard it, and the knowledge became too much for her. She snapped, started trying to warn people, and the resulting hysteria ended with four grown men having to restrain her as they took her away.
At the Connor Beverly Behavioural Medicine Centre she's diagnosed with schizophrenia, the voices dismissed as religious-centric delusions, and she is treated for these problems. The medication she is given don't prevent her from hearing the angels though, and she is left barely lucid but still rambling about the coming apocalypse. When an orderly comes to bring her medication one night though, she takes one look at him and panics. Seeing the real face of the demon possessing the man, she's terrified, and the resulting panic helps her in her escape. It triggers some of the abilities that lie dormant within her, a dresser slams the man into the door and knocks her out, and she escapes. In the subsequent escape, while trying to get into her church, she manages to wind up in Wonderland.
...
There's more though, because things never can be too complicated. The Beginning was simple, a moment of Creation and God made himself the angels. They grew in likeness and the archangels led them, and things were good. Then God created humans, asked that the Host adore them above everything and things started to slide. Gabriel disappeared to escape the fighting, Lucifer disregarded the humans and in his choice he Fell, God fled the scene without leaving any instructions, and with only Michael and Raphael left to control things the messages got a little twisted.
Emotionless. That's how the angels were raised henceforth and that's what they all became. Anael was no different, just another cold marble statue, perfect and pristine and entirely void of the spark that gave humanity life - free will. They had no need for it, hadn't been taught to choose. They were only taught to obey. She rose, led her own Garrison and took orders from above, and never once questioned the instructions delivered to her through superiors from the mouth of God. Doubt was a sin, and she had none.
And then Anael spent two thousand years on Earth. Two thousand years isn't exactly long to an angel, but two thousand years disconnected from family and home wear on everyone eventually, and she watched and waited with silence. It was during this time, while she watched and waited that she began to fall in love with humanity, and through them she learned how to feel. She learned how to love, and hate, to care and to fear. She learned how to be angry, and how to choose, and when she finally returned, she took those lessons with her. At first she tried to make it fit, her new knowledge fit into a world that had worked for so long, but to disobey was to doubt, and to doubt meant death. Anael knew too much, she couldn't live like this any more, and so in March of 1985 she took it upon herself to enact on one of her lessons - free will. She stepped forward, tore her Grace out and let it fall, and she Fell. Her Grace touched down in Kentucky and from it flourished a centuries old oak tree within six months. Anael landed in northwestern Ohio, gifted to a deacon and his wife. Their prayers for a child were finally answered, in the form of an angel reborn into the fully human Anna Milton. And so her story began, and Anael's ended.
Abilities/Special Powers:
As she is technically an angel, Anna should have far more power on tap. She isn't in possession of her Grace though, nor can she remember any of her life as an Angel, and therefore her abilities are only as follows:
Angel Radio - She can hear the angels talking to each other and understand them, though she can't respond and doesn't control what she does/doesn't hear.
Perception - She can see the true faces of demons, and though she cannot identify them she could sense the approach of angels a few seconds before they actually arrived.
Supernatural Knowledge - Some of the knowledge from being an angel has remained, though pretty dormant, such as when she used a blood sigil to banish the angels but had no idea how she knew what to do.
Enhanced Strength - Under duress she has been shown to put up more of a fight than a woman her size/stature should be able to.
Telekinesis - She is able to control inanimate objects in times of panic, such as throwing a dresser hard enough to knock a man out.
It should be noted that with the exception of Angel Radio and perception of supernatural beings, none of these powers manifest themselves with any regularity and are limited to literally life or death situations. Angel radio and perception cannot be controlled,t here's no off switch. She sees the true faces of demons at all times, and hears almost all conversation between angels. Basically she has a bunch of cool stuff here, shame she doesn't know how to use any of it!
Third-Person Sample:
When it comes down the moment, all Anna really can do is run. She doesn't know why these monsters with hideous faces have come for her, doesn't know why it's her life that has been ripped apart by the calm, cold voices ringing in her mind, but asking 'why' won't help her get away. She doesn't even have time to question what they even want her for, she just slips out of the door and runs.
She's hardly all that conspicuous. Anna is still wearing the whites given to her in the facility but it doesn't much matter. All that matters is getting far away, and trying to figure out where her life went so wrong. Home feels too risky, too far away, but there has to be somewhere closer, somewhere that she can hide and take a moment just to pull things back together. Somewhere that no one will look for her. The church.
It feels right. The moment she even considers the church it feels safe, and she knows its right. She can get there, get changed and lie low until it all blows over. Call her parents, and hopefully someone will give her the answers. Someone will finally believe her, take her seriously, and everyone will be okay.
The only problem is, as she yanks open the back door of the church and slips into a darkened room, she turns to find a very unfamiliar, unwelcome sight. It's not the presbytery of her father's church, it's a grand hallway. A quick glance over her shoulder shows only a bright, flourishing garden, and Anna just freezes. She hadn't been asking for someone to prove her wrong when she'd thought her life couldn't get any worse, honestly.
A deep breath comes first. It'd be so easy to panic, but she can't afford that right now. For all she knows the demons are still following her, so she psychs herself up a little and walks forward. Into the mansion, away from the front door, and into madness.
First-Person Sample:
[ She waits to use the device found in her pocket for a few reasons. First, she needed to actually hunt around the mansion for herself for a while, get an idea of where things were and try and discover some answers for herself. Second, because everyone seemed to be panicking on first arrival, and it was far easier to listen to other peoples replies than actually ask any questions of her own. Lastly, it's because she's afraid. She's not forgotten that she's trying to hide - what if the people are still looking for her?
Eventually there comes a time where she has questions of her own though, and so it might take a while for her to muster up the courage to do it but eventually she has to.
When Anna first addresses the network it's quiet, even a little timid. There's a lot of hesitation and it means that she's probably a little hard to understand at first, just a quiet voice full of awkward pauses and a lot of confusion. ]
So, I know there's a lot of people around here who don't know what's going on, but I just...I had a couple of questions, if that's alright. [ And there's another pause where she waits for someone to say something, argue back. When it doesn't happen she just clears her throat before stammering forward once more. ] It's just that people are going to start to worry if I'm here too long, that's all. My parents and stuff, they should probably know. They're probably really stressed already, and I just want to tell them I'm alright.
[ She has about a million other questions, but for the life of her can't remember a single one of them right now. So she just sighs quietly, and wraps it up. That'll do for now. Hopefully someone can tell her how to get in touch with home, and then once she's got that weight off of her shoulders she can start worrying about everything else. ]
I think that's it. So if anyone can help with that, I'd...well, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks?
[ There's another few seconds of silence where she considers saying something else, and then the feed ends. ]
